“The Door of No Return” at San Telmo Museum, San Sebastian, Spain.

“The Door of No Return” (video installation) 2021 is presented in the exhibition “Indésirables – From bombardment to the camp, trajectories of exile and forced migration” curated by Piedad Solans at the San Telmo Museum, San Sebastián, Spain, from 29 October 2022 – 29 January 2023. The exhibition also features artworks by Alexandra Ranner, Bani Abidi, Cristina Lucas, Emily Jacir, Esther Ferrer, Eugenio Ampudia, Halil Altindere, Inaki Gracinea, Joseph Delappe, Marco Avila Forero, Mona Hatoum, Peggy Ahwesh, Pilar Millan, Regenia José Galindo, Rogelio Lopez Cuenca & Elo Vega.

“The Door of No Return” references the iron gated portal at Elmina Castle on the coast of Ghana through which captives were forced to board the ships of European traders transporting them to slavery in the Americas between 1482 – 1863.

This is the second showing and the first outside Africa, of “The Door of No Return”. It was first exhibited in  “The Past is Never Dead …” at Gallery 1957 Accra, Ghana, from 20 May – 12 July 2021.
