Adjoining Rooms

1989

Wood, glass, acrylic sheet, AC lacquer
3 items: 78 cm. x 142 cm. x 62 cm. each, 78 cm. x 426 cm. x 62 cm. overall.

Unique work.

Adjoining Rooms 1989 is the third work we made where we joined three table-vitrines end to end. The first, Traces of Living, 1986, contained found objects sourced from the streets and markets around our house in Whitechapel. The second, Degrees of Evidence 1987, contained fragments of unglazed white ceramic waste found on the pottery dumps of Stoke on Trent together with an architectural model of the City Museum & Art Gallery, Stoke on Trent. In Adjoining Rooms 1989 the three tables are empty except for the coloured light and shadow cast by the coloured acrylic panels in the sides. With Adjoining Rooms 1989 the tables display themselves.
