The Extent of the Fire

1989

Charred wood, glass.

96 x 43 x 45 cm.

The model under glass in the seat-void of the sculpture re-presents the section of the Houses of Parliament in London destroyed by fire in 1836.
The chair back references schematically the opposition benches of the House of Commons chamber with the Cross Benches either side of the entrance into the chamber.
